TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (MNA) -- Vietnam News Agency or Vietnamese News Agency (VNA, commonly abbreviated as TTXVN) is the official news agency of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The Vietnamese News Agency (TTXVN) was founded in 1945 shortly after the August Revolution.

 

On September 15, 1945, Ho Chi Minh's Declaration of Independence of Vietnam was broadcast through the TTXVN in Vietnamese, English and French.

 

In 1947, news in Chinese was first broadcast but halted a year later.

 

In 1960, the Liberation News Agency was founded to broadcast news in South Vietnam.

 

In 1976-1977, the Vietnamese News Agency and the Liberation News Agency were merged under the name the Vietnamese News Agency.

 

In 2008, the VietnamPlus website was launched, which published news in Vietnamese, English, French and Spanish.

 

The agency is one of OANA member agencies invited by the Mehr News Agency to attend the 31st Executive Board Meeting (EBM) and the 25th Editorial-Technical Experts Group (ETEG) Meeting in Tehran from November 13 to 17, 2009.

 

The Mehr News Agency is the host of the five-day event which is to be attended by over 40 representatives of 18 governmental and non-governmental news agencies from the Asia-Pacific states, including Russia, Japan, China, S. Korea, Indonesia, India, and Malaysia.

 

On the theme of “A quest for global media balancing”, the meeting is to be officially inaugurated on Sunday morning at Tehran Enqelab Hotel.

 

According to Parviz Esmaeili, managing director of the Mehr News Agency, also president of Tehran’s EBM and ETEG meeting the meeting is aimed at closing gaps between the world media.
