New films hit Iranian theaters

TEHRAN, Sept. 16 (MNA) -- Four new films premiered in Iranian movie theaters on Thursday to better brighten up Id al-Fitr, the celebration marking the end of the month of Ramadan next week.

“Penniless”, the second film by Hamid Nematollah, which features a story of a couple facing destitution, is among the films being screened.

 

“Penniless” and “About Elly” were jointly selected as the Audience’s Favorite Film at the 27th Fajr International Film Festival.

 

“Hesitation”, a film noir about fratricide and infidelity is also on screen in Iranian cinemas.

 

The movie is Varuzh Karim-Masihi’s second after a 19-year hiatus from filmmaking.

 

Starring Bahram Radan and Taraneh Alidusti, “Hesitation” was selected as the Best Film at the 27th Fajr International Festival in 2009.

 

“Hesitation” and “Penniless” have been submitted to the Iranian Committee for Selecting a Film for the 2010 Academy Awards.

 

Mohammad Banki’s “Two Sisters”, Qodratollah Saleh-Mirzaei’s “The Sweet Life” and Ali Vazirian’s “A Span of the Sky” are the other films screening at cinemas.

 

“Two Sisters” is about a young fraudulent and deceitful person who establishes a connection with two sisters using different disguises.

 

“The Sweet Life” is comedy about a cinema actor named Amir who, despite a good career, faces many problems in his family life.

 

“A Span of the Sky” narrates the story of a kid who asks God for a span of sky. An angel brings him a span of sky, but jealous people try to steal it from him.
