Children’s Book Council to host exhibit for physically challenged youth in 2010

TEHRAN, May 25 (MNA) -- The Children’s Book Council of Iran will play host to an exhibition of books for physically challenged young people next summer in 2010.

Selected by IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People), the package will include 50 outstanding books along with posters collected from different countries on the major topic of disabled children, said secretary of the children’s council Nushafarin Ansari.

She stated that the council would be hosting the exhibit for three months beginning next year in September, adding “Iran announced its readiness at the recent Bologna Book Fair held in May and discussed the issue with IBBY officials at the exhibit.”

She remarked that Tehran’s Mahak Charity Society, an institute supporting Iranian children suffering from cancer, is also cooperating in this project.

“There are numerous opportunities during the exhibit such as World Deaf Day (September 30), International Children’s Day (October 8), and International White Cane Safety Day (October 15) which we could arrange special programs on these occasions,” she explained.

“The council has recently released a statement for writers and illustrators to participate in the exhibit and we have received a number of good entries so far,” she remarked.

The council hosted the Exhibition of Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities in 2005.
