Student Basij Issue Statement on Four-Nation Agreement in Tehran

The statement said that after the discussions held between the officials of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Iranian officials, Iran signed an agreed statement with the foreign ministers of Britain, France, and Germany in Tehran, but the issue of whether to sign or reject the additional protocol to the nuclear Non–Proliferation Treaty (NPT) had led political camps of Iran, which are obligated to uphold national sovereignty and security, to adopt a cautious policy on the matter. 

The statement went on to say that imperialists increased their pressure on the country after Iran acquired nuclear technology and the ability to enrich uranium, but added that it seems that the relationship between Iran and the IAEA is prudent, based on international regulations, and in line with the IAEA documents Iran has signed.  

The students added that some issues, such as the involvement of the United Nations in Iran’s nuclear program as well as the results of the visits to Iran by European Union Foreign Policy and Security Commissioner Javier Solana and the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Britain are not yet clear.

The statement stressed that the enemies of the country are trying to politicize the issue of Iran’s scientific development and have slandered Iran’s scientists, who are faithfully working for the welfare of their nation, despite the fact that European countries have not fulfilled their commitments to Iran.  

“We Muslim students do not mean to accuse the officials of the country, but only mean to remind people about the tough stance the late Imam Khomeini took toward international challenges,” the student statement said in conclusion.
