According to Al-Jazeera, the comments which came following a phone call on Friday morning are significant because Pakistan — which mediated the US-Iran ceasefire — has said that the truce covers Lebanon, an assertion contradicted by the US and Israel. Israel launched its most devastating bombing campaign of the war against Lebanon on Wednesday, hours after the ceasefire was announced. More than 200 people were killed.
Hezbollah has responded to the Israeli bombardments by shelling military positions in the occupied territories, displacing thousands of settlers and causing power outages in Kriyat Shemona and other settlements.
France has argued that the ceasefire should include Lebanon.
Dar and Barrot “underscored the importance of full implementation and respect for the ceasefire” in their conversation, according to Pakistan’s foreign ministry.
