Martyr Hashem Safieddine laid to rest in south Lebanon

TEHRAN, Feb. 24 (MNA) – Hezbollah has held an official funeral procession for martyred SecGen Sayyed Hashem Safieddine in Deir Qanoun Al-Nahr, southern Lebanon, where the martyr was laid to rest.

Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, the martyr Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, was laid to rest on Monday in his hometown of Deir Qanoun al-Nahr, southern Lebanon, amid a massive public turnout.  

The funeral proceedings began in the afternoon with a large procession through the town.  

Delegations from several countries attended the ceremony, including a Yemeni delegation led by the Grand Mufti of Yemen as well as an Iranian delegation, along with representatives from various Lebanese villages and towns.

Mourners carried blessed coffin of Hashemite Martyr Sayyed Hashem Safieddine for his pure body to be laid to rest, an Al Manar report said.

On Sunday, a massive funeral procession was held for martyr Seyyed Safieddine alongside his predecessor martyr Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, in a solemn ceremony that began at Camille Chamoun Sports City and concluded at Sayyed Nasrallah’s burial site near the Lebanese capital Beirut.

An estimated 1.4 million people from across Lebanon, the Arab world, and beyond took part in the funeral, alongside Lebanese and international officials, as well as party and political delegations.

Hezbollah announced on October 23, 2024, the martyrdom of Sayyed Safieddine, the head of the Executive Council of the Resistance movement and later Secretary-General, in an Israeli airstrike. Sayyed Safieddine was elected as Secretary General after Sayyed Nasrallah's martyrdom.

Sayyed Safieddine, a key figure in the Lebanese Resistance movement, was killed alongside several of his fellow fighters, in what the Resistance condemned as a "criminal and aggressive Zionist airstrike."

In a heartfelt statement, Hezbollah paid tribute to Sayyed Safieddine, describing him as a "great leader and esteemed martyr on the path to al-Quds." The statement emphasized that he was martyred content and patient, accepting his fate as a martyr.
