KSC annual steel production to hit 1.2m tons

TEHRAN, Feb. 19 (MNA) — Completion of the Khorasan Steel Complex development plan will result in the production of 1,200,000 tons of steel per annum, the company managing director noted.

Currently, Khorasan Steel Complex is consisted of a rolled steel production unit with a nominal annual production capacity of 550,000 tons and a 600,000-ton steel production unit, the company director said adding, however, upon completion of the development project being carried out at the complex, its total output will be boosted to 1,800,000 tons.

 

Two direct iron ore reduction units are to be built at the complex the required agglomerates of which will be supplied by Sangan Unit, he explained adding that, however, in case of any shortages in the feedstock and the raw materials needed by the plant, there is always the option of purchasing them from world markets.

 

Completion of the Khorasan Steel Complex development plan is expected to result in the production of 660,000 tons of rolled steel and 1,150,000 tons of steel ingot end items, ISNA news agency quoted him as saying on Monday.

 

He also commented that the use of the sponge iron instead of scrap iron is being carried out at Khorasan Steel Complex.

 

The development plan at the complex will be completed by the end of Iran’s Fourth Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2004-2009), he further announced.
