A loitering munition, also known as a suicide drone, kamikaze drone, or exploding drone is a kind of aerial weapon with a built-in warhead that is typically designed to loiter around a target area until a target is located, then attack the target by crashing into it.
The Russian army has used a kamikaze drone by the name of Lancet which is very much like the newly-built drone by the IRGC.
The Russian kamikaze Lancet drones have played an important role in its battle against Ukraine over the past two years.
The Iranian armed forces have also made different kamikaze drones so far given their usefulness in hitting the enemy's targets. Among the Iranian loitering drones, one can refer to the Meraj 521 and Sina drones, which were respectively produced by the IRGC ground forces and the defense ministry.
During the recent Great Prophet 18 military exercise, it was revealed that the IRGC's ground forces have made a significant investment in the field of kamikaze drones, and the equipping of this force with the famous "Shahed 131" and "Shahed 136" drones, which were first reported to the media during the Great Prophet 18 exercise, clearly shows that.
Now, with the release of the images of the newly built but unnamed drone, it seems that the efforts to produce newer types of kamikaze drones to play the role of loitering munition, have begun.
