Iran plans to increase export of defense products by 50%

TEHRAN, May 18 (MNA) – A senior Iranian defense official says the Islamic Republic plans to increase the export of its defense products by 50%.

Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik, spokesperson for Iran's Defense Ministry, said on Sunday that the ministry has taken major strides in increasing the production of defense equipment and meeting the requirements of the Armed Forces, Press TV reported.

He added that Iran has succeeded in meeting all its defense requirements and is now focusing on expanding the export market and responding to many requests for the purchase of the country's defense products.

He hailed Defense Ministry's great achievements in the sectors of research, know-how and modern technologies.

"The Armed Forces have pursued and will pursue the principle of technological surprise against the enemy and at the same time prevent any kind of surprise in the offensive and defensive fields," Talaei-Nik emphasized.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made substantial headway in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient.

Iranian military products have also found many clients in the world.

Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, which are entirely meant for defense.

In an interview, Talaei-Nik has said Iran is among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of defense industry technology.
