South Pars Co. starts drilling second oil well in South Pars field

TEHRAN, Mar. 8 (MNA) -– South Pars Oil and Gas Company started its drilling operation on the second oil well of the South Pars Oil and Gas Field.

South Pars Oil and Gas Company on February 3, started the drilling operation on the second oil well in the South Pars Oil and Gas Field. However, prior to drilling the main well it began to drill a pilot hole in the region, a statement by the company said on Tuesday.

Drilling the pilot hole is a necessary step for gaining access to the information crucial for continuing the exploration operations the most important of which is the Master Development Plan (MDP) sampling. The sampling would in turn identify the pressures of different layers of the basin, the angle of the slope of the reservoir’s fluids levels - the water/oil or gas/oil levels as well as other samplings, the report added.

The company predicts the time required for drilling the second well in the South Pars Oil and Gas Field Development Plan to take about 63 days. The period will include the time to be spent on drilling the pilot hole. However, the total time required for the completion of the operation including the drilling of the nine wells in the field is estimated to be about 295 days, the report further explained.
