India strongly condemns terrorist attack in Iran's Chabahar port

TEHRAN, Dec. 06 (MNA) – India has strongly condemned the Thu. terrorist attack in Iran’s southeastern port Chabahar which killed two people and injured more than 30 others.

In a statement a few hours after the deadly attack, India issued an statement in condemntation of the suicide terror attack in Iran’s southeastern port Chabahar which killed two people and injured 35 others.

"India strongly condemns today's despicable terrorist attack in Chabahar, Iran. We express our condolences to the Government and the people of Iran and the families of the victims of this attack. We wish speedy recovery to those injured. The perpetrators behind this dastardly attack should be brought to justice expeditiously. There can be no justification for any act of terror," the statement reads.

India has made an investment worth $500 million in the development of Chabahar port - Iran's closest port to the Indian Ocean - which provides the country with an easier land-sea route to Afghanistan. In February, Iran signed an agreement to lease the operational control of phase one of Chabahar port to India for 18 months. The port is also a key link in the International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC), a multi-modal network of ship, rail and road routes to move freight between India, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe. The development of the port comes in defiance of US sanctions.
