Europe’s failure in fulfilling obligations over JCPOA ‘not justified’

TEHRAN, Nov. 20 (MNA) – Head of Iran's Foreign Policy Strategic Council Seyed Kamal Kharrazi said that inability of Europe to live up to its commitments within the framework of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not justified.

He made the remark in his meeting with a delegation of experts of German think-tank, the Bertelsmann Foundation, and said, “although Europe’s failure to help Iran stand against US pressures is understandable in the field of JCPOA, its inability to live up to its commitments within the framework of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not justified.”

Europe is located in the neighborhood of West Asia, so that Europe’s security is directly linked to the security in our region, he said, adding, “it should be kept in mind that maintaining JCPOA is effective in the security of region and Europe, in particular.”

In response to a question on the relationship between Iran and Turkey, Kharrazi said, “despite some different political viewpoints, the two countries of Iran and Turkey have expansive capacities to broaden their ties, and Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes cooperation with its neighboring country.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Kharrazi emphasized that the defense strategy of the country in the region is completely defensive, adding, “Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are key countries in the region which can play an influential and important role in attaining mechanism of peace, security and stability in the region.”

With regard to the method of countering US sanctions imposed on Iran, he said, “Islamic Republic of Iran has benefited from young and talented manpower with rich energy and mineral resources and can overcome economic problems if accurate management is practiced in the country.”
