Iran supports Afghan peace initiatives: FM Zarif

TEHRAN, Nov. 19 (MNA) – The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to cooperate with the United Nations in all areas in Afghanistan and strongly supports peace initiatives in the country, the Iranian foreign minister said Mon.

Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with Tadamichi Yamamoto, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan and the head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Tehran on Monday.

Zarif in the meeting declared Iran's support for United Nations initiatives for the establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

 "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to work with the United Nations in all areas in Afghanistan and strongly supports the peace initiatives in the country," the Iranian Foreign Minister underlined.

Tadamichi Yamamoto, in turn, expressed appreciation to the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan, and called for continued constructive role of Iran, including at the forthcoming Afghanistan conference in Geneva, which is going to be hosted jointly by the Government of Afghanistan and the United Nations.
