Putin, Trump hold first ever one-on-one summit in Helsinki

TEHRAN, Jul. 16 (MNA) – The presidents of Russia and the United States held closed-door talks in Finish capital of Helsinki to discuss a wide range of issues.

The top diplomats from the two countries Sergei Lavrov and Mike Pompeo have held separate talks.

At the start of the summit, Putin told Trump that “the time has come to talk thoroughly about bilateral relations, as well as various hotspots in the world,” Aljazeera reported.

Trump, for his part, congratulated Putin over the successful organization of 2018 World Cup. He said that they will discuss various issues such as trade, missile, military, nuclear weapons and also “their mutual friend”, referring to China.

“Getting along with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing,” he added  

The one-on-one talk lasted for 2 hours. “Very good start”, said Trump following this meeting which ended some hours ago.

The next round of talks started with more officials of the two countries in attendance.

Putin and Trump will have a joint press conference after the meeting.
