€2.7bn finance attracted in water recycling plan, boosting power station efficiency

TEHRAN, Jun. 19 (MNA) – By using financial resources of Islamic Development Bank (IDB), ECO Trade and Development Bank and also Asian Infrastructure Development Bank (AIDB), Energy Ministry initiated development of water and power projects, worth €2.7 billion euro, in the country.

Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian made the above remark in 12th International Energy Conference (IEC) and said, “in this regard, €2.7 billion worth of foreign finance has been attracted in projects of water recycling and increasing efficiency of power stations.”

He said, “Islamic Republic of Iran has strategic plan to change climatic condition and has taken giant strides in this regard to reduce emission of greenhouse gases.”

Given the above issue, Islamic Republic of Iran has devised national strategic plan in this regard, so that this comprehensive plan is underway in cooperation with other economic sectors, Ardakanian maintained.

No subject is as important as gaining access to the energy resources and using them in setting policies, formulating strategies and implementing pertinent programs in the country, he opined.

Environmental pollutions such as water, air, soil and its effects caused by the climate change, natural disasters and reduction of valuable biological resources [including surface water, underground and oceanic reservoirs, etc.] are of the consequences of an untapped and unprotected consumption of energy especially fossil fuels, Ardakanian highlighted.

Islamic Republic of Iran has taken positive steps in recent years in line with reducing emission of greenhouse gases and adapting with the consequences caused by the climate change, he said, adding, “under the 5th Five-Year Socioeconomic and Cultural Development Plan, this comprehensive plan clarifies policies to ensure food security, the efficient use of water and revival of underground water resources, reduce emission of greenhouse gases, etc.”

The Energy Ministry has managed to attract €2.7 billion worth of finance for the development of water and power projects in the country, he said, adding, “moreover, the ministry is after attracting €4 billion worth of more finance in this respect.

In conclusion, Reza Ardakanian Minister of Energy said that his ministry always places special emphasis on reducing consumption of water and power especially in peak hours in summer season.
