Iran, Qatar sign MoU to boost sport coop.

TEHRAN, Dec. 17 (MNA) – Iranian and Qatari football federation heads signed a memorandum on Thursday December 14, 2017 to increase bilateral sports cooperation and counter destructive actions by Saudi government.

According to this memorandum of understanding which was signed by Mehdi Taj, the president of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the President of the Qatar Football Association, men and women Iranian football national teams at different age groups can use the facilities of the Doha Camp, in particular ASPIRE Academy.

The memorandum also states that Iran and Qatari national football teams have agreed to hold two friendly matches with well-known teams by Iran’s choice.

The signing of this memorandum of cooperation is part of the long-term plans of the Qatari Football Association to develop football in the country and to increase relations with its Asian and global counterparts.

With this memorandum, Iran and Qatar can unite against Saudi Arabia destructive policies as the two countries are against Saudis’ policies in the region. Iran could also use Qatar's influence in FIFA and the AFC.

On the other hand, Qatar’s cooperation with Iran can improve Iran’s position in the face of challenges imposed by Saudi Arabia on the AFC.
