Rouhani, Haniyeh discuss Trump embassy move in phone call

TEHRAN, Dec. 11 (MNA) – Hundreds of students under the banner of the “defenders of the holy shrines” hit the streets in Tehran with anti-US banners and placards.

“The wronged nation of Palestine and the Islamic Umma, will undoubtedly foil this American-Zionist plot with unity, resistance, and perseverance,” said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday, referring to US President Trump order to move US embassy to al-Quds.

The Iranian top executive made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh.

“This inappropriate measure exposed the real nature of US and the Zionist regime before the eyes of the world more than ever and proved that they will never recognize the rights of the Palestinian nation,” asserted Mr. Rouhani after categorically condemning the US measure.

The Iranian president also stated that resistance against this “insulting decision” of Us was one of the most important tests for the Palestinian people and all Muslims, adding, "In these conditions, the first and foremost step is that all Palestinian movements must exercise unity and give a decisive response to the Zionist Regime and US, and in the second step, the World of Islam must stand up against this plot with unity and unanimity".

"The Muslim states will undoubtedly voice their protest to the world on Wednesday at the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Turkey," he added.

Mr. Rouhani also voiced Iran's support for the Palestinian people and referred to the report by the Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau about the new intifada and killing of four Palestinians and wounding of over 1500, and said, "We are proud of the great people of Palestine for their resistance, jihad, and sacrifice against the Zionist enemy, and we are certain that the new intifada will continue its right path of safeguarding the Palestinian people's rights".

The Chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, for his part, appreciated the firm positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in support of the Palestinian people and the “Holy Quds”, and said, "From the view of the Palestinian people, the Islamic Republic of Iran is a strong pillar in supporting the realization of the causes of the Palestinian people".

Ismail Haniyeh also described the decision of US president as a blatant violation of the rights of the entire Islamic community and emphasized that the “Palestinian people would never allow the Israeli regime and US to achieve this goal because the Holy Quds belongs to Palestine and the World of Islam.”

Referring to the start of the new Palestinian intifada after the insulting decision of the US government, he said, "This intifada, which has already claimed four lives and left 1500 Palestinians wounded, will continue strongly and we are determined to thwart the plot by the Americans and the Zionists".

He also called on all Islamic governments to support the rights of the Palestinian people and the “Holy Quds” at the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Turkey.
