On the meetings with his counterparts at the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), underway in Russia’s St. Petersburg, Iran’s Larijani said he had met and talked with speakers of several countries like Iraq, Mexico, Vietnam and Turkey and each session dealt with issues of common interest. “At the joint meetings with Parliament speakers of Iraq and Turkey, complicated regional issues were discussed and relevant views were exchanged.”
“Other issues raised at the meeting were regional security, addressing regional issues as well as elevation of trade and economic ties,” speaker of the Iranian Parliament added.
Recalling his speech at IPU, Larijani said “my lecture dealt with Iran-US relations and existing difficulties while it also revolved around objectives sought by Americans.”
The official went on to add that numerous bilateral meetings between speakers of parliaments on the sideline of IPU were precious opportunities to share stances taken by the Islamic Republic of Iran on various topics.
Parliament speaker, while referring to shared concerns of all present speakers towards behavior of Americans, said the US president, during his office, has projected an image of his country which is despised by the whole world.
Criticizing recent anti-Iran statements of Donald Trump, Ali Larijani noted that baseless and incoherent remarks by the US president revealed his inability to express facts and realities.
“Speakers present at IPU were mainly coming from democratic states and would never proclaim dictated statements of their government,” highlighted the official stressing the importance of fortifying ties with these representatives.
Larijani emphasized that further sessions of IPU were going to be held in the coming days; “the Iranian delegation will seek to conduct bilateral talks with other speakers present at the event.”
