Parliament delegation to visit Lebanon on kidnapped diplomats

TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (MNA) – An Iranian MP said a Parliamentary team is slated to travel to Lebanon in order to conduct field investigation on fate of the four Iranian diplomats kidnapped in Lebanon in 1982.

Sharouz Barzegar touched upon the latest measures taken to follow up and enlighten fate of four Iranian diplomats who were abducted in Lebanon on July 04, 1982 saying “so far, three or four session have been held on the issue and talked have been also made with families of the diplomats.”

“Moreover, correspondences have been made with relevant organizations while local investigations will be carried out with the aim of obtaining a comprehensive conclusion on the issue,” he underlined.

The Iranian lawmaker went on to urge all those previously involved in the case or those who possess relevant information to share outcomes of their investigations.

He expressed hope that surveys will soon yield results in order to put an end to worries and concerns held by families of Iranian diplomats as well as the public opinion.

On claims about finding clues indicating that the diplomats are alive, the official said it was too soon to jump to conclusions since further investigation was required. Sharouz Barzegar underscored that such claims are made by those released from Israeli jails; “we need to talks with these people in person before firm decisions can be made.”

At the end of his remarks, the official expressed hope that Iranian diplomats are still alive underlining that no effort will be spared until the case becomes clear.

Four Iranian diplomats, Ahmad Motevaselian, Seyed Mohsen Mousavi, Taghi Rastegar Moghadam and Kazem Akhavan were abducted in Lebanon on 4 July 1982. None of them have been seen since.
