Iran, Austria ink MoU on consular coop.

TEHRAN, Jul. 22 (MNA) – The third joint consulate summit of Iran and Austria was held on July 20-21 at the Austrian Foreign Ministry where a memorandum of understanding on consular cooperation was signed between the two sides.

The two-day session was led by Director General for Consular Affairs at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ali Chegeni and Director General for Legal and Consular Affairs at Austrian Foreign Ministry Elisabeth Tichy. The meeting was also attended by Abdollah Molaei, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vienna, and a delegation of various Iranian institutions, including the Interior Ministry and the police.

The meeting discussed issues like expanding cooperation between the two countries in various consular affairs, including providing better consular services to nationals of both countries and removing constitutional barriers and problems, and the two sides reached a number of agreements.

Other issues raised at the summit were facilitating travel and the legal residence of nationals of both countries on each other's territory, combating illegal immigration, combating drug trafficking and organized crime.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Iranian delegation met with the several senior Austrian officials including deputy minister of the interior and director general of public security of the Ministry of the Interior and director general of tourism affairs of the Austrian Ministry of Science and Economics.

The high-ranking Police delegation of Iran, who accompanied Chegini during the visit, met with their Austrian counterparts including Interpol Police, the Counter Narcotics Police and the Anti-Trafficking Police and while exchanging views, reached initial agreement to continue bilateral cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on consultative cooperation was signed between the two parties.
