2 new cases awaiting inscription in UNESCO list

TEHRAN, May 11 (MNA) – Two new cases have been submitted to UNESCO and are expected to be inscribed in the world heritage list this year, Head of Iranian National Commission for UNESCO said Thursday.

Sadollah Nasiri Gheydari noted that one of these cases is a request for the inclusion of the name of Sheikh Shahab al-Din Suhrawardi, Persian philosopher and founder of the Iranian school of Illuminationism, into the list of world renowned people.

The other case is the inscription of Jundishapur University dating back to 1,750 years into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

“Given the fact that these two cases have obtained the required criteria at UNESCO General Conference in 2017, they will be inscribed in the world heritage list,” he said.

Jundishapur University in Ahvaz is far older than Bologna University in Italy or even University of Cambridge in England, he added.

According to Nasiri Gheydari, so far the names of 33 famous Iranian people and about 20 cultural heritage items including historical buildings and cultural works, as well as 10 intangible heritage items such as Ta'zieh, and 9 written heritage cases have been inscribed into UNESCO list.
