Speaker of Algerian Council of the Nation Abdelkader Bensalah made the remarks on Monday evening at a meeting with Iran’s Minister of Culture Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri who is visiting the North African country.
Bensalah voiced deep satisfaction towards expansion of relations between Tehran and Algiers expressing hope that bilateral interactions will be further strengthened.
He also expressed contentedness about ties between the Algerian Senate and the Iranian Parliament adding “visits of officials of the two countries could substantially develop relations.”
Abdelkader Bensalah said a Joint Commission has been fortunately launched and is implementing agreements according to the schedule though ministries and organizations of both sides are expected to play more active roles in this regard.
The Algerian Senate speaker pointed to partnership between Tehran and Algiers in cultural events and programs saying “joining hands in the fight against terrorism could definitely lead to tangible outcomes.”
“Sadly, terrorism has become globalized which required close partnership among nations,” underlined the official expressing hope that peace and security will return to the region in the shortest possible time.
Bensalah referred to outstanding features of the region in which Algeria is situated asserting “the Senate has developed a new mechanism for elections putting the country in suitable conditions as regards the election process.”
“All Algerian parties are ready to take part in the elections as the government has fulfilled its duties by providing grounds for elections,” he continued.
Speaker of Algerian Council of the Nation said Algeria, similar to other countries, was faced with economic, political and security threats with the biggest challenge being falling oil prices though the issue has been alleviated recently.
He said no one knew what policies would be pursued by Donald Trump as the ‘man of sudden actions’ adding “Algeria has put good economic planning on the agenda in order to reduce reliance on oil.”
The official noted that Iran was a vast country with extended borders stating “fortunately, Algeria also enjoys security and stability and will hopefully develop ties with Iran.”
Also at the meeting, Iran’s Culture Minister Salehi Amiri said President Rouhani has given priority to Algeria in reinvigoration of relations with Arab states.
“The prevailing rationality and stability in Algeria are among important factors leading to Iran’s favorable relationship with the North African country,” emphasized the official saying “both sides are Islamic and revolutionary and have paid huge costs to counter terrorism giving them shared determination to reinvigorate relations.”
He touched upon ongoing regional difficulties stating that the first threat is terrorism on top of which resides ISIL; “terrorism would have spread all through the region if it wasn’t for Iran.”
“We share similar view on Palestine and the fight against the Zionist regime,” highlighted the Iranian official appreciating stability of Algeria’s view towards Palestine.
Salehi Amiri, while calling for expansion of political, economic and cultural ties between Iran and Algeria, said the time was ripe for more serious steps towards stronger relations between the two countries.
Iranian culture minister left Tehran for Algerian and Tunisia on Monday at official invitation of his counterparts.
