National skiers clinch gold in Lebanon

TEHRAN, Mar. 07 (MNA) – Iranian skiers have managed to secure one gold and one silver medal at an international skiing event underway in Lebanon.

On the opening day of the international alpine wrestling competitions, hosted by Lebanon, Iranian representatives succeeded in claiming one gold and one silver trophy.

Competing in Men's Slalom, Hossein Saveshemshaki stood on top of the podium while Mohammad Kiadarbandsari landed in the second place to win a silver medal.

The Iranian squad is being led by Alidad Saveshemshaki as the head coach.

The tournament is being competed in Lebanon’s Mzaar Kfardebian ski area which marks the largest ski resort in the Middle East.

Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the sport or recreation of sliding down snow-covered hills on skis with fixed-heel bindings.

It is characterized by the requirement for mechanical assistance getting to the top of the hill, since the equipment does not allow efficient walking or hiking, unlike cross-country skis which use free-heel bindings.
