Azerbaijan drops claims on owning zurkhaneh sport

TEHRAN, Feb. 28 (MNA) – Azerbaijan Republic has withdrawn its unfounded claim about ownership of zurkhaneh sports.

As quoted by the Iranian Federation of Pahlavani and Zurkhaneh Sports, the news issued by official website of 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games on Azerbaijan confiscating ownership of zurkhaneh sport created a wave of concerns among people of Iran.

Accordingly, competent authorities, including the National Federation of Pahlavani and Zurkhaneh of Iran, International Zurkhaneh Sports Federation (IZSF), the National Olympic Committees and other relevant institutions sought amendments to the blatant mistake made by the host of Islamic Solidarity Games.

Zurkhaneh consists of two words: ‘zur’ meaning power or strength and ‘khaneh’ meaning house, translating to, House of Power or Strength.
