Russians to build, rehabilitate power plants in Iran

TEHRAN, Jan. 18 (MNA) – Deputy Iranian energy minister said as part of new power deals between Tehran and Moscow, Russians will construct a new generating plant and rehabilitate an existing one.

Deputy Minister of Energy for Planning and Economic Affairs Alireza Daemi expounded on the most significant negotiations conducted between Iran and Russia in power industry over the past year saying “so far, a contract has been inked with Russian firms over construction and rehabilitation of two power plants.”

“As part of a second power deal between Iran and Russia, a new generating station will be constructed in Bandar Abbas,” noted the official adding “in partnership with a Russian company, a power house will be constructed in Bandar Abbas with a capacity of 1,400 megawatts.”

Daemi said the key features of power plant building in Bandar Abbas were high efficiency as well as exploitation of new generation of turbines; “the two power deals between Tehran and Moscow are worth billions of dollars while further details will be made public in future.”

Iran has so far sealed cooperation agreements with Russia’s Inter RAO – Export for running a rehabilitation project in Ramin Power Plant as well as with Technopromexport for construction of a combined cycle power plant in Hormozgan province.

Kommersant daily newspaper has recently stated that the contract value for building a new power plant in Bandar Abbas mounts to about 1.12 billion dollars which will be supplied by reopening of Russian Line of Credit (LoC).

It is anticipated that, in case the contract becomes implemented, Russian firms will benefit from F- and H-class turbines in construction and rehabilitation of new power plants for the first time ever.
