Syrian forces blow up terrorist's tunnel in Aleppo, killing over 15 militants

ALEPPO, Oct. 15 (MNA) – Syrian forces have located and destroyed a tunnel in the old city center of Aleppo, killing over 15 terrorists, city militia told RIA Novosti.

In the past month, Aleppo has been a battlefield between Syrian government forces, terrorists, and numerous opposition groups. The Syrian army and local militia forces have managed to encircle large groups of terrorists in some districts of the city, but it is yet to be liberated fully.

Terrorists have been digging tunnels in Aleppo for the past three years, trying to get to the rear of Syrian government forces. In July, terrorists blew up a road police building near the old city district after digging a tunnel leading up to it.

"Engineers were able to discover the terrorists’ tunnel in time, east of the citadel. The tunnel has been blown up, over 15 militants who were underground at that time were killed," the militia said.

Syria's war between government forces and a wide range of insurgents, including opposition groups and terrorists, such as Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al Sham (also known as al-Nusra Front, or Jabhat al-Nusra) has raged for some five years and has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

On September 9, Russia and the United States reached an agreement for a peace process in Syria. A ceasefire stipulated by the deal entered into force on September 12, but while it was supposed to last at least seven days for the next steps to be taken toward the Syrian settlement, it disintegrated soon.
