Shamkhani calls for uprooting of terrorism

TEHRAN, Aug. 30 (MNA) – SNSC secretary said effective regional and international approaches need to be adopted in order to stamp out causes of terrorism.

The visiting Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani met and talked with Iran's Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), on Monday.

The Iranian official commemorated the memory of Former President of Afghanistan Burhanuddin Rabbani and deemed his efforts in bringing national unity and Islamic Awakening to Iran as influential; “Rabbani’s logical and robust views remain as an excellent model for Afghan youth and authorities.”

Shamkhani further touched upon cultural commonalities between the two states which offer excellent opportunities for bilateral cooperation and emphasized the need to exploit these capacities in the path of economic, cultural and political prosperity.

He further enumerated the existing threats and crises in the region, especially presence of terrorist and takfiri groups, reiterating “active approaches need to be employed in order to put an end to roots of terrorism including ISIL-making ideologies as well as their financial supporters.”

Leader’s senior advisor went on to note that other important issues of Islamic countries, however, should not be neglected including threats posed by the Zionist regime or military and colonial movements of the US under the guise of terrorist confrontation.

“Although many evade the responsibility to compensate for the damages caused by military attack to Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran continuously deploys humanitarian aids to the neighboring country.”

SNSC secretary emphasized the need to confront human and drug smuggling as well as to boost mutual collaboration over border waters adding “economic prosperity in border areas would do away with grounds for presence and activity of terrorist groups in addition to increasing security and stability of Iran and Afghanistan.”

Afghan FM Rabbani, for his part, appreciated the positive measures taken by Iran for resolving Afghanistan’s problems saying “our priority is to bolster diplomatic ties with friend countries in order to confront extremism and terrorism.”

The visiting official said evaluated the trend of national fight against terrorism as positive saying “security issues have developed substantially thanks to the support of local and police forces.”

“Unlike what enemies of Afghanistan are looking for, Afghan government and people seek sustainable peace and stability in their country,” he underlined.
