President Rouhani congratulated Mrs. May on her new positon as prime minister and believed Tehran-London had seen a positive change in relations after JCPOA. Rouhani however voiced grievances that Britain should work to improve banking transactions of Iran with the rest of Europe which had remained unchanged even after the initial hopes that the sector would enjoy improvements; “all attempts should concentrate on best possible method of JCPOA implementation; we believe openings in banking, insurance, and other financial improvements during post-JCPOA era are Iran’s rights; we want to see Britain plays her always strong role in consolidation of the historic deal as before,” he emphasized.
Rouhani then turned to fight against terrorism; “terrorism and its aftermath in the region and the world entail coordination, cooperation and convergence of all countries subject to repercussions of the extremism; Tehran welcomes exchange of ideas with London on this,” said the president.
Theresa May for her part, highlighted her country’s resolve in developing ties with Tehran in virtually all sectors; “London has been working hard in implementation of all provisions of JCPOA and will continue to accelerate the pace which has been relatively slow and frustrating seen from Tehran,” said British premier. “We will remain committed to JCPOA; on banking and insurance sectors, London supports working with Tehran and had been working to persuade other EU banks to do transitions with Tehran.”
“The roots of terrorism should be addressed in an attempt to tackle the problem; London welcomes sharing of opinions with Tehran as well; our foreign ministers would resume talks which we believe will improve bilateral ties further,” said PM May.
