Shahrdad Rouhani to lead Tehran orchestra

TEHRAN, Aug. 02 (MNA) – The MD of Roudaki Foundation announced that the entity has picked renowned Iranian musician, Shahrdad Rouhani, as the permanent conductor of Tehran Symphony Orchestra (TSO).

Ali Akbar Safipour, the Managing Director of Roudaki Foundation, announced on Tuesday, on the sideline of a presser of the orchestra of the youth, that Shahrdad Rouhani has been appointed as the permanent conductor of Tehran Symphony Orchestra.

After the resignation of maestro Ali Rahbari from conducting and managing the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, the fate of the orchestra was in haze and even a pre-scheduled staging in China’s Shanghai was decided to be in two parts under the baton of two conductors performing two different parts, one with Persian pieces and the other with classic pieces.

There, the first part which included a repertory of Persian music pieces was conducted by Farhad Fakhreddini, and the second part, with pieces by Antonín Dvořák, by Nasir Heydarian.

Safipour reassured that after the appointment of Rouhani, Tehran Symphony Orchestra and National Symphony Orchestra will act separately again.

Founded in 1933, the Tehran Symphony Orchestra was originally founded as the Municipality Symphony Orchestra by Gholamhossein Minbashian, but it was remodernized by Parviz Mahmoud in 1946 and since then has been under the baton of famous conductors such as Rubik (Ruben) Gregorian, Morteza Hannaneh, Haymo Taeuber, Heshmat Sanjari, Farhad Meshkat and a host of other renowned Iranian maestros.

The 62-year-old musician, Shahrdad Rouhani, was born in Iranian northern city of Rasht and being educated at the Persian National Music Conservatory of Tehran he followed his music ambition in Vienna where he graduated at the Vienna Music Academy in the field of Music Composition and Conducting in 1975.

Since then he has been active, around the world, serving as the composer, orchestrator, or conductor of many orchestras like the Arts (COTA) symphony orchestra in Los Angeles, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras.
