Iranian ‘avaz’ receives acclaim from Italian group

TEHRAN, Aug. 06 (MNA) – Second training workshop of an international project Italy’s Voice for Iran had been a platform for Iranian ‘avaz’ (traditional vocal mode) to steal the admiration of the participants from Italy.

Atabak Eliasi, the workshop trainer and head of Music Composition group in the University of Art, said that sharing experiments and the mentality of composers and players constituted an important objective for the project; “when a great and world-renowned orchestra comes to Iran, they carry a peculiar culture of music to the country; this provides us as hosts which lags behind the global music mainstream, with an experience unique where we develop a better and first-hand understanding of their music; the process however is a two-way road and they as well get a new picture and mentality Iranian music tries to share to global audience,” Eliasi told reporters on the sideline of the workshop.

“An important feature of Iranian ‘avaz’ is its effort in taking the non-Iranian audience with shock and awe, along the admiration, a thing I experienced during the workshop; young musicians of the World Youth Orchestra were taken by a sense of admiration when they heard Persian lyrics and the accompanying music; they were quite mesmerized by the unique feelings the ‘avaz’ was trying to instill the room with,” Eliasi rejoiced to say.

A joint concert by Tehran Symphony Orchestra and World Youth Orchestra, a part of greater project Italia’s Voice for Iran will perform in Vahdat Hall of Tehran, August 10-12.
