TEHRAN, May 23 (MNA) – Iranian maestro Ali Rahbari was selected as chief conductor of Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in New York.

The conductor of Iran's National Symphony Orchestra Ali Rahbari was invited to serve as chief conductor of Youth Philharmonic Orchestra through an email, Roudaki Foundation announced.

Youth Philharmonic Orchestra is organized by a non-governmental organization and world famous musicians.

Rahbari has accepted the position and asked a number of talented Iranian musicians to be among the 70 other countries participating in the orchestra.

"Conducting the orchestra is a great honor for me and my country. It has also come as a surprise," Rahbari said after accepting the position.

The orchestra will perform, with Rahbari as conductor, at Carnegie Hall New York on September 27 concurrently with United Nations annual session which will be attended by leaders from various countries.

The Youth Philharmonic Orchestra includes more than 200 young musicians from over 70 different countries. Young musicians between the ages of 18 and 26 will come from a wide range of cultural, linguistic and ethnic backgrounds to take part in this ensemble.

The Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will raise awareness for global youth issues and empower the youth through music. The participating young musical talents will perform on the same day their presidents represent their countries at the United Nations during the General Assembly meetings in New York City.

The event will be held with the mottos 'Voice of Every Person Is a Note in a Greater Symphony' and 'Voices of the World's Youth for Peace'.

Ali (Alexander) Rahbari has worked with more than 120 European orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

He won the first prize of the International Besançon Competition for Young Conductors (France) in 1977 and in 1978 received the silver medal at the Geneva International Conducting Competition.
