“Holding conferences like the third South Asian Diaspora Convention (SADC), is positively contributive to the convergence of the Asian countries, and the discussed issues of the event require more planning,” said Ali Akbar Velayati, the Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council, on Tuesday, in his meeting with the Singaporean Minister for Home Affairs, Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam.
The two officials met on the third day of Velayati’s visit to Singapore. Iranian veteran diplomat left Tehran for the south-eastern Asian country on Sunday to attend the third South Asian Diaspora Convention (SADC) and is en route to Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur after his stay in Singapore.
During the meeting, when asked about regional developments, Velayati highlighted that “the Middle East, the main energy source of the world, with a very highly sensitive geopolitical location and very important strategic situation, is surely threatened by the plots of some countries who intend to divide and disintegrate the countries of the region. If it was not for the cooperation of the countries of the region and the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the region was under the control of the Takfiri and extremist terrorists like the ISIL, and this very point highlights the importance of cooperation of the Asian and Middle Eastern states.”
The Singaporean Minister for Home Affairs, in this meeting, voiced his complimentary words welcoming the Iranian official to his country and called for cooperation of the countries of the region and Asia, despite the differences of views, for cooperation in economic areas which would lead to more cooperation in other areas like politics, culture, and society.
Also, in this meeting, Iran’s Ambassador to Singapore Ansari briefed the attendants of the areas of bilateral cooperation and the common viewpoints of the two countries for developing bilateral ties.
