TEHRAN, Apr. 05 (MNA) – Iran’s four-member national sabre fencing team will take part in Team World Championship to be held in Brazil.

Men's sabre and women's foil will be the two team events excluded from the program for Rio 2016 as announced on November 29th, 2015 at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Congress at Automobile Club de France in Paris.

Consequently, Team World Championship in Men Sabre and Women Foil will be held prior to the 2016 Rio Olympic fencing competition.

Mojtaba Abedini and Ali Pakdaman, who had advanced to the semifinals in 2016 SK Telecom Seoul Grand Prix and secured two Olympic berths for Iran in sabra fencing, together with Farzad Baharebaran as well as Mohammad Fotuhi will form Iran’s squad to participate in the Brazilian tournament.

Similar to previous event, Payman Fakhri will lead the Iranian men's sabre team in the event.

The Team World Championship will be held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from April 25th to April 27th, 2016.

Prior to the Team World Championship, Iran’s sabre outfit will also compete at 2016 Asian Fencing Championships which will take place in the city of Wuxi, China from April 13-18, 2016.
