Sourian loses at Asian qualifiers

TEHRAN, Mar. 19 (MNA) – Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestlers at 59kg conceded a defeat against Japanese rival at the 2016 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament.

The 2016 Asian Qualification Tournament is underway from March 18–20 in Astana of Kazakhstan where the top two athletes in each weight category will find their way to wrestling at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

Hamid Sourian at 59kg weight category was defeated by Asian Championship silver medalist Shinobu OTA of Japan 4-7 in the first round while only finalists will be able to snare tickets to Rio Olympics.

Omid Norouzi (66kg) and Bashir Babajanzadeh (130kg) at Greco-Roman event as well as Komeil Ghasemi (125kg) at Freestyle section will compete against rivals on March 20 in an attempt to secure places at Rio Games.

The 1st World Qualification Tournament will be held from April 22–24, 2016 Ulaanbaatar of Mongolia where three athletes in each weight category will find their ways to 2016 Olympics and the 2nd World Qualification Tournament is scheduled to convene on May 6–8, 2016 in Turkey’s Istanbul where the top two wrestlers receive Olympic quotas.
