Rouhani calls for closer Tehran-Muscat ties

TEHRAN, Feb. 21 (MNA) – In a Sun. meeting with Omani foreign minister in Tehran, President Rouhani called for closer cooperation between Iran and Oman in the post-sanction atmosphere.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani held talks with Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah on Sunday in Tehran, saying Tehran welcomes expansion of economic ties with Muscat.

He then referred to Oman’s policies toward the promotion of stability and peace in the region and hailed the neighboring country’s constructive cooperation on the process of Iran’s nuclear case.

“It is imperative for both countries to take advantage of the presented opportunities in the post-sanctions atmosphere in Iran for further boosting of joint cooperation especially in economic areas,” said President Rouhani.

He also noted investment opportunities in ports of Oman Sea, saying “private sectors in both countries can expand their cooperation in the fields of ports, aviation, railway, and banking."

Rouhani informed the Omani foreign minister of various accommodations the Iranian side would provide for Omani investors and businessmen, saying “it is necessary to provide Iranian businessmen with better and easier conditions to do business and make room for closer cooperation between the two countries’ private sectors.”

Yusuf bin Alawi, for his part, stressed Oman’s determination and resolve in developing the level of its cooperation with Tehran in all areas, saying “the economic facilities and capacities in Iran and Oman can further improve the two countries’ relations.”

He also maintained that his country welcomes the extensive presence of Iranian businessmen in Omani market and would provide them with special accommodations.

The Omani diplomat further highlighted the importance of energy cooperation with the Islamic Republic, saying “Iran-Oman economies are complimentary and this fact has given both countries ample opportunities for joint cooperation.”
