Iran’s giant step to championship in Asia Freestyle

TEHRAN, Feb. 20 (MNA) – Iran’s national freestylers have snatched 3 gold medals in the first four weight categories during the first day of Asian Championship in Thailand.

The competitions kicked off on Saturday where Iran’s freestylers took a giant step toward the first place. In 57kg. category, Younes Sarmasti defeated his Japanese and Turkman rivals to advance to semifinals where he lost to an Indian freestyler in a close grapple 8-10. The defeat embraced Sarmasti when only he was equalizing in the last seconds of the match 8-8. His performance in the match for third and fourth place was also far from excellent and was defeated by Mongolian freestyler and finally stood in the fifth place.

In 65kg. category, Meisam Nasiri defeated the hosting Thailand’s representative in the first round and in the next rounds, he won Mongolian and Uzbek rivals in road to semifinals, where he won Japanese wrestler to reach final. In final, Nasiri snatched the first gold by winning Kazakh freestyler.

In 74kg. category, Mostafa Hosseinkhani defeated Japanese rival and similarly won Mongolian and Kyrgyz representatives to reach to final. His rival in final renounced the match out of injury and Hosseinkhani easily won the second gold to Iranian camp.

In the last category, 97kg. today, Reza Yazdani faced almost no serious rival in road to final. Thai, Uzbek, and Mongolian rivals were defeated. In final, Yazdani won Kyrgyz wrestler by fall to win the third gold in a brilliant day for Iran. The second four categories will kick of Sunday morning in Bangkok.
