Iran to buy 114 civilian aircraft from Airbus

TEHRAN, Jan. 17 (MNA) – Minister of roads and urban development has announced the reaching of an agreement to buy 114 civilian aircraft from Airbus Group SE.

“An agreement has reached to buy 114 aircraft from France’s Airbus for national carriers Iran Air, Mahan and Homa,” Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi told the reporters on Saturday adding “several negitiations have been conducted with the world’s aircraft manufacturers over the past months.”

Akhoundi also noted the plan to renovate the national aviation fleet asserting “to this end, aircraft leasing as well as holding talks with top insurance companies have been put on the agenda.”

The official had promised to invest more than $20 billion in new planes in the next decade during a visit to the Paris Air Show last year.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization had said earlier the country would need up to 500 new planes in that period.
