The 10th joint Economic Commission meeting of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic held in Tehran on Monday morning in presence of Minister of Communication and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi, as Iranian co-chair of the commission, and Minister of Economy and Industry of Azerbaijan Republic Shahin Mustafaov, as Azeri co-chairman of the commission, as well as around 100 persons from Azerbaijan public private sectors.
In time with the signing of an MoU between Iran and Azerbaijan, Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi announced the upcoming visit of Azeri President Ilham Aliyev to Tehran in near future.
Addressing the 10th joint Economic Commission meeting of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic, Iran’s ICT minister referred to the trip of Azeri officials to Tehran adding “the visit has created new chapter in relations between the two countries and we hope that the achievements of the 10th joint commission will provide the grounds for the travel of Azerbaijan’s president to the country.”
Vaezi emphasized the expansion of bilateral relations in economic, commercial, financial and banking dimensions in the last year highlighting the determination of the Iranian government to develop all-round relations with neighbors, especially Azerbaijan; “good agreements have been attained and there would be no limits on the boosting of ties,” he added.
The Iranian official deemed oil and gas negotiations as a good ground for the expansion of collaborations between the two sides adding “with regard to oil swap, it was agreed that Iran will make use of Azerbaijani gas tanks and the two countries will launch joint venture in the Caspian Sea.”
“Existing problems for connecting electricity networks between Iran and Azerbaijan Republic were discussed in the meeting and it is due to be connected next month,” said Vaezi stating “the connection of electricity network between the two countries will create good opportunity in the region, which could be used for development of ties with other states.”
He referred to the development of trilateral cooperation with Russia and Georgia adding “the sides have agreed on 24-hour customs cooperation.”
“Upcoming removal of anti-Iran sanctions can pave the way for fostering banking and economic cooperation between the two countries,” Vaezi noted.
He further maintained that “development of north-south corridor is necessary and that expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of tourism, medical treatment, oil, gas and transportation are growing.”
At the end of the session, an MoU was signed by the Iranian and Azeri ministers on several areas including banking, customs, health, environmental and tourism.
