Iran, Syria, Iraq ties ‘strategic, expanding’

TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (MNA) – Adviser to the Leader and head of Strategic Research Center stressed Iran’s positions on supporting Syrian nation in a live interview to Alikhbaria TV in Damascus.

Ali Akbar Velayati who was on an official visit to Syria on Sunday to hold talks with President Bashar al-Assad, said in a live interview with Alikhbaria Syria TV that the significance of recent regional developments, the achieved victories, and the Russian President’s meeting with Iran’s Leader last week, had necessitated his visit to Syria to reiterate the Islamic Republic’s support of the Syrian nation’s resistance in the face of terrorist activities.

“In the meeting with President Assad and other Syrian officials, intellectual spheres, practical cooperation and future prospects were discussed,” said Velayati, expressing hope that the cooperation would further increase.

“If terrorism is condemned, supporting it then is also condemned, and if fighting terrorism is hailed, then supporting the efforts is also hailed and praised,” said Velayati in response to a question, adding “the region and the world have realized the rightful stance of Iran, the resistance of Syrian people, as well as Russia’s measures in fighting terrorism, and certain European countries are now attempting to join this movement with Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Russia at the forefront.”

Velayati maintained that Russia’s anti-terrorism measures have been taken at the request of Syria’s legitimate government and as such, are completely legal and legitimate.

Stressing that the Islamic Republic will continue its support in the fight against terrorism in earnest, adding “Iran, Syria and Iraq’s relations are completely strategic and expanding in all areas. Any decision regarding the future of these countries must be taken by their own people and legitimate governments and no outsider can decide for them.”

He criticized the decision of certain countries to disintegrate Syria and Iraq, saying “they seek to preserve the Zionist regime’s security by ripping these countries apart and form weak governments that are incapable of resisting against their excessive demands.”

Velayati stressed however that the resistance of people in the region will never allow such plots to come into effect.
