Ali Akbar Velayati who is visiting Syria was received by Syrian president Bashar al-Assad during an official meeting in Damascus to discuss the latest development in the region. The meeting was held in two sections of open and behind the closed doors where Velayati conveyed the warm regards of the Iran’s Leader and the government and nation to Syrian president.
Velayati is accompanied by deputy-FM for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Iran’s ambassador to Damascus Mohammad Reza Rauf Sheibani. Assad expressed gratitude for Iran’s loyal support and the Leader’s principled positions on Syria; “there have been drastic changes during recent months, which otherwise would push us to borders of failure had it not been for the direct and indirect support of the Islamic Republic,” Assad told Iranian delegation.
Velayati for his part, believed that Syrian government and people’s intrepidity would write a new and brilliant chapter of Syrian history; “your fighting of extremism and Takfirist and the enemies of Islam is a source of honor and glory; the Leader of the Islamic Revolution had confirmed Iran’s support for Syrian government and people, with the president Rouhani as well expressing message of fraternity and warm regards,” he told Syrian president.
Elsewhere in his speech, President Assad acknowledged his full awareness of Iran’s support for his government and that “the success and achievement so far has been for full-hearted support by Iran’s leadership and nation.”
