Iranian trade office opens in south China

 

TEHRAN –Iran’s Chamber of Commerce set up an office Saturday in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou (Canton). At the same time, Iranian and Chinese traders joined the Iran’s ambassador to China in the city to celebrate their first joint trade seminar.

 

Now, the chamber has about 100 members. The charter of the chamber outlines the significance of developing bilateral trade ties as well as recognizing possible investment opportunities. In the inaugural ceremony, the Iranian ambassador met with deputy governor of Guangzhou to discuss ways of expanding mutual economic relations. About 30% of China’s exports belong to Guangzhou, which is the capital of Guangdong Province.

 

Greenhouse farming covers over 12.5 sq meters in Larestan

 

TEHRAN – Currently, some 12,530 sq meters of land in Larestan, south of Fars Province, is covered by greenhouses.

 

The town has an area of 21281 sq km and a relatively hot climate. Meanwhile, water supplies are really scarce in the area and, thus, farmers are forced to raise crops in greenhouses instead of farms or gardens. These greenhouses are mainly used for growing cucumber, tomato and strawberry. Evidence bears out that, in hot areas, greenhouse plants show more resistance to the environmental conditions compared with plants grown in a mild climate.

 

Golestan produces over 9m of various sturgeon species

 

TEHRAN – Two of the major sturgeon farms in Golestan Province bring about a total of 9.3 million fishes of various sturgeon species, said general director of fishery office in the northeastern province.

 

“These are then released into the Caspian Sea in line with efforts to preserve the precious fish,” Abbas Hosseini uttered. The output of these two fish farms showed 43% increase compared with that of last year.   

 

Anguran Mine’s output to double

 

TEHRAN – The annual extraction output of lead and zinc in Anguran Mine will be doubled in order to supply the big zinc ingot factory in Zanjan.

 

The factory, which is to come on stream in the next two months, will bring about 100,000 tons of zinc ingots. Anguran Mine, which is located 100km southwest of Zanjan, is the largest lead & zinc mine in the country. Last year, the mine’s output reached 625,000 tons of lead and zinc, showing 21% growth compared with previous figures. Anguran’s zinc products are said to be among purest reserves all through the world.

 

Shahid Rajaii fish farm to produce 90m whiting fingerlings

 

TEHRAN – Shahid Rajaii fish farm in Sari, Mazandaran Province, is expected to increase its whiting fingerling output up by 90 million.

 

Experts of the fish farming complex are now looking for fish eggs on the banks of five of the main rivers of the province including Shirud, Cheshmeh Kileh, Babolsar, Tajan and Goharbaran. When produced, the fingerlings will be immediately released into the Caspian Sea.

 

Sudden halt in Iran’s fruit exports

 

TEHRAN – An official in the Union of Fruit and Vegetables Exporters said that the country’s fruit exports experienced a sharp decrease last year, adding the current market crisis is expected to go on for an indefinite period.

 

“The agricultural jihad has put Iran’s citrus output in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2005) at 4 million tons, and the markets are still thirsty for fruits,” Nuraii stated, implying that domestic citrus markets will fully supply the customers by 1.5 million tons only. “We have no surplus to export,” he said. Tomato prices have recently soared to an unreasonable level as unexpected frost damaged tomato gardens in Jiroft and Bushehr, which are the main tomato producer cities in Iran.
