President Hassan Rouhani received IAEA Director Yukiya Amano on Thrusda evening to discuss nuclear negotiation going on in Vienna. During the meeting, President Rouhani highlighted promotion of peaceful nuclear activities and preventing proliferation of nuclear weapons as two major duties of the IAEA that should be considered symmetrically and indiscriminately for all member states.
“Iran’s cooperation with IAEA has a long history and has proved to the IAEA that the accusations against Iran have been totally baseless,” Rouhani said. “Proving there has been no deviation in Iran’s nuclear program with 12 years of close cooperation with the IAEA provides the best criteria of judgment for world public opinion.”
He also stressed Iran’s equal rights under IAEA Safeguards as a member state and refuted any bias and discrimination in this regard. “Iran is still ready to reach a fair framework under the safeguards and existing regulations to resolve remaining differences in nuclear negotiations,” stated Rouhani.
Iran’s president also called on the IAEA to avoid influence of western powers in its technical and legal position in order to play a positive role in final stage of Iran and 5+1 talks in Vienna.
Rouhani further pointed to previous cases of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA leading to removal of ambiguities and resolution of problems and emphasized that if necessary will existed on two sides and non-technical issues were prevented from interfering into the issues, remaining ambiguities would be resolved very soon.
IAEA Director Amano, for his part, hailed Tehran’s cooperation with the Agency; “in our previous inspections, we have always reported that Iran’s nuclear program has had no deviation to military purposes and that the country has always met its obligations.”
Pointing to his ‘constructive negotiations’ with secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Amano asserted that “I believe that with mutual respect and close cooperation, resolving all technical issues will be possible and I hope IAEA’s report following this meeting will help ongoing negotiations.”
