Ryabkov, who is Russia’s negotiator at the nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany), made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Mahdi Sanaei in Moscow on Monday.
He also criticized the United States for adopting a new sanctions measure against Iran and expressed hope that the negotiating partners would patiently try to observe the terms of the nuclear deal reached in Geneva last month between Iran and the major powers over the country’s nuclear program.
On Thursday, the U.S. blacklisted additional companies and people under the existing sanctions against Iran.
The Iranian ambassador thanked Russia for playing a positive role in the process of the nuclear talks between Tehran and the 5+1 group and asked Moscow to step up its efforts so that a final deal on Iran’s nuclear program can be reached.
