Sharon Blocks Road to Peace, Blackmails UK -- Tehran Times

TEHRAN, July 15 (Mehr News Agency) -- The Tehran Times newspaper in its Opinion column to be published on Wednesday says Israel has blocked the road to peace in the Middle East region suggesting that Tel Avis is trying to blackmail London.

In an interview with the Fox News Television Network on July 13, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon accused Iran of undermining the Mideast peace roadmap. The butcher of Sabra and Chatila also alleged that Iran is blocking the road to the peace process in the region by supporting the Palestinian resistance groups.

While calling Iran the “greatest danger” in the region, Sharon referred to the Palestinian resistance groups as “terrorists”. But this is not the first time that the Zionist regime’s officials, particularly the war criminal Sharon, level their unfounded accusations against Tehran.

Theoretically, the Middle East peace roadmap drawn up by the Quartet of the U.S., European Union, United Nations and Russia aims at ending 33 months of the anti-occupation uprising and pave the way towards a Palestinian state by 2005. But, who is really blocking the road to peace in the Mideast? Iran and Palestinian resistance groups or Sharon himself?

According to the United Nations Charter, the Palestinian resistance to fight the Zionists' occupation of their homeland is their legitimate right of self defense. The world public opinion still remembers the notorious massacre of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon carried out by Israel's Christian militia allies in 1982 when Sharon was defense minister. And world's conscientious people still remember the genocide carried out by the Zionists in Sabra and Chatila refugee camps in Beirut.

In a move in line with the past aggressive moves, recently, general Sharon has intensified its endeavors to persuade foreign governments to pressure Iran and the Palestinian resistance groups. He has also attempted on launch a campaign to boycott veteran Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, accusing him of undermining his Prime Minister Mahmud Abbas, who is leading the Palestinians in ongoing peace talks.

In an interview with the leading Norwegian daily Aftenposten on Sunday he said, "There has to be a common approach to remove Arafat from all positions."

In line with his campaign against Arafat, in his meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Sharon called for Britain's help in changing the pro-Arafat attitude of the EU states.

Sharon also raised the issue in a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw where he disclosed that London’s position was similar to the wider EU stance.

The Zionist regime officials have time and again asked the EU that if it wants to play a Middle East role similar to the United States, it would have to adopt a more "balanced policy" in favor of Israel. Everybody knows that by "balanced policy" they mean to undermine Iran and the Palestinian resistance groups including their leader Yasser Arafat.

In a bid to acquire the EU's consent on Tel Aviv’s evil wishes, Sharon is trying to blackmail Britain, because he considers it to be the doorway to the EU. Sharon's objective in meeting the British officials is urging Britain to take the lead in changing the pro-Palestinian attitude of the European Union. In that case, as he has said, "Israel will be willing to reciprocate and allow greater European involvement in the peace process, a role such as that of the U.S."

There is no doubt that as the democratically elected leader of the Palestinian Authority, the EU and other world officials will continue to have contacts with President Arafat where they judge it to be useful.

And finally, following the recent B.B.C report on the Zionist regime's nuclear programs that unveiled some of its covert and mysterious activities regarding its nuclear arms programs, Sharon is in a terrible predicament. He is trying to project his problems away to Iran, Arafat and others. He wants to divert public attention away from his aggressive measures against the innocent Palestinian people, and at the very meantime he is talking of Mideast Roadmap Peace Plan.

In fact, neither Iran nor Arafat and no one but Sharon himself is blocking the road to the peace in the Mideast. And British officials shall be aware of not falling prey to the plots of the Zionist regime which their colonial predecessors helped as a midwife to be created on the volatile region’s map.
