Documentary on First Iranian to Conquer Everest

TEHRAN May 16 (MNA) –- A documentary is being made about Mohammad Oraz, the first Iranian who climbed Mount Everest.

Written and directed by Qader Rashidi, the documentary is now in its post-production stage. It depicts the spiritual character of Oraz, an Iranian national hero.

A mountaineer from Naqadeh, West Azerbaijan, Oraz was a modest, virtuous, and ambitious climber. As a member of the Islamic Republic of Iran National Mountaineering Team, he was the first Muslim to conquer Mount Everest (8848 m/29,028 ft) without bottled oxygen and hoisted the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the top of Mount Everest.

In August 2003, Oraz and national team members were climbing an 8067m mountain when they encountered an avalanche. Oraz fell, dying 21 days later, on September 7, 2003.
