Persepolis beats Mes of Rafsanjan in Hazfi Cup

TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (MNA) -- Persepolis advanced to Iran’s Hazfi Cup last 16 stage after beating Mes of Rafsanjan on Tuesday.

Persepolis needed a victory against the first division team to relieve the pressure on its coach Hamid Estili, who is on the verge of dismissal following poor results in the Iranian Professional League.

In the match held at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, the Tehran-based team defeated Mes of Rafsanjan 2-1.
 
Sheys Rezaei headed the ball into back of the Mes’s net with five minute remaining in the first half.  Persepolis defender Alireza Noormohammadi equalized the match in the 86th minute, scoring an own goal and the match went to extra time. 
 
Mohammad Noori finally fired Persepolis into the next round with a powerful shot from the penalty area in the 118th minute.
 
IPL giants Sepahan and Traktorsazi were eliminated from the competitions.
 
Traktorsazi lost to Shahrdari of Yasuj 3-4 in the penalty shoot-out, Saipa was defeated against Siah-Jamegan of Mashhad 1-0 in its home game, Foolad edged Sepahan 1-0, Abu Moslem saw off Malavan 3-2, Shahin of Bushehr beat Niroo Zamini 3-1, Sepasi defeated Etka of Golestan 1-0 and Damash beat Naft 6-5 in the penalty shoot-out.
