According the Mehr News Agency, in the terrorist attack unidentified gunmen opened fire on a border police station, killing four police officers and injuring two others.
The attack happened at around 2 a.m. local time.
So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The dead officers were Pejman Zamani, Milad Qobadi, Soleiman Zare’i, and Kazem Abedi whose funeral processions were held on Sunday.
Saman Pishdad and Saeed Chobderazi were also injured in the incident.
PEJAK probably involved in attack
Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Ali Abdollahi has said that PEJAK (the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan) was probably involved in the attack.
Police have launched a full investigation into the incident and “the perpetrators of the terrorist incident will be identified and brought to justice,” Abdollahi told the Fars News Agency on Sunday.
He added, “This terrorist incident was different than two recent terrorist attacks which recently occurred in (the western city of) Sanandaj. However, PEJAK has not yet claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.”
In two separate terrorist acts on March 24 a serviceman and a policeman were martyred in Sanandaj, capital of Kordestan province.
U.S., Israel making moves in Iraq’s Kurdistan region
Elsewhere in his remarks, Abdollahi said that the intelligence services of the United States and Israel “are making moves in Iraq’s Kurdistan region and (their agents) are even publishing newspaper whose official name is a Zionist one.”
He stated, “Through the arrest of a number of people involved in terrorist operations conducted in Iran it has been made clear that they were supported and guided by the intelligence services of the U.S. and Israel in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. The issue was reported to officials of Iraq’s Kurdistan region and it is being pursued.”
The Interior Ministry official also announced that serious efforts have been made to tighten control over the country’s borders.
