Tehran intl. sport filmfest selects winners

TEHRAN, Jan. 7 (MNA) -- The 8th edition of the Tehran International Sport Movies and TV Festival selected winners on Thursday in which “Once for Ever” by Mohammad-Baqer Vosuqi was announced as the best film.

The best director award also went to Mohsen Khan-Jahani for his “Glass Hat”.

A selection of 70 movies by 69 directors was screened in the four sections of Iran Competition, International Competition, Special Screening and Non-Competitive.

The award presentation ceremony was held at the Niavaran Cultural Center where a group of cinematic and sports officials took part.

The festival is the representative of FICTS (International Federation of Sport Movies and Television) in southwestern Asia.

Iran ranks number two after the Milano International FICTS Festival in continuous holding of sport movie festivals, as the festival’s website announced.

The ceremony began with short speeches delivered by organizers of the event followed by handing the awards to the winners in different sections.

Actors Dariush Arjomand, Amin Hayaii, and Mehdi Aminikhah were presented with best actor awards for their roles in films with the central theme of sports.

Following is the list of winners at Iran Competition.

* Best Animation: “Parallel Lines” by Elham Marufi

* Best Feature: “Monday Contest” by Mohammad Moqimpur and “Good Days of Championship” by Ruhollah Yarmohammadi

* Best Screenplay: “Hero” by Majid Farazmand

Following is the list of winners in the international section:

* Best Sports Advertisement: “The Chess” by Gabrielle Freiha (Qatar)

* Best Documentary: “The Story of the Statue” by Shadab Ahmed Khan

* Best Film: “Ski into the Sun” by Willy Bogner (Germany)

The best of the Milano International FICTS Festival 2009 were also honored at the ceremony including Ali Akbari for his “Personal Defense Training” (Afghanistan), and Davud Foroughi for his “Dream of Annapurna” (Iran).
