Reformists have no chance in presidential race: conservative MP

TEHRAN, Feb. 22 (MNA) -- Avaz Heydarpour of the Majlis majority faction stated on Sunday that reformists have no chance to win the June presidential election, saying reformists have no popularity.

He told the Fars News Agency that principlists (conservatives) enjoy support among the public and will win the race.

Heydarpour also noted that Khatami’s candidacy may lead to a runoff but the electorate would finally put their hopes on principlists.

He said the reformist camp has announced that it will contest the election with three candidates but conservatives’ presidential nominee until this date is only the incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

He said opinion polls indicate that Ahmadinejad has a great chance in the presidential race.

The lawmaker suggested that in addition to Ahmadinejad, principlists must select a capable and popular person as a shadow candidate in regard to future changes and possibilities.

He also added that the activities of political groups and factions in recent months show that the presidential election will be bipartisan.
