UNESCO, ICOM to pay homage to calligrapher master Jalil Rasuli

TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) -- The UNESCO office in Tehran, the International Council of Museums (ICOM), and the Eternal Figures Committee will pay tribute to calligraphy master Jalil Rasuli during a ceremony at the Sadabad Historical Cultural Complex on May 21.

Rasuli, 60, practiced calligraphy under master Seyyed Hassan Mirkhani. He was one of the first calligraphers to introduce the use of color in this art form.

An exhibition of calligraphy works by Rasuli opened on May 16 at the Sadabad Complex’s Museum of Fine Arts.

Forty Sufi artworks by Rasuli are put on display at the exhibit which will continue until May 20.

In his 40-year career, Rasuli has adopted the habit of creating artworks secretly. He believes that “copying and meager understanding spoils an artist’s pleasure from the creation of artworks.”

He also once said, “Calligraphy is the art of salvation and originality, because the calligrapher believes in whatever he inscribes.”

His works have been displayed in China, Japan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Germany, and Canada.

He has published his previous works in the books “Garden of Eden”, “Jan-e Janan” (The Most Beloved), “Four Seasons”, “Memorial of Love”, and “Green Leaf Album”.
